The Illawarra Shoalhaven Suicide Prevention Collaborative has recently released its third Progress Report, summing up milestones and achievements to date, as well as next steps for the future.
In 2017, the Collaborative adopted Black Dog Institute's LifeSpan project - an evidence-based, integrated approach to suicide prevention, with a community-led approach.
The Progress Report - December 2018 documents what has been achieved over the past year, flags potential issues and identifies ways to improve suicide prevention initiatives across the Illawarra Shoalhaven.
The report also provides people working in suicide prevention with information on how their efforts fit within the 'bigger picture' of the LifeSpan project.
Key achievements:
- 78% of all Collaborative meetings have at least one person with lived experience present
- 113 health professionals have undertaken specialised suicide prevention training (Advanced Training in Suicide Prevention and Youth in Distress)
- 100% of Government and Catholic schools signed up to Youth Aware of Mental Health (YAM), with over 3,900 students set to participate in the program
- 3,289 Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) licenses sold
- #care2qpr was the largest media campaign in the region, resulting in 2,953 QPR online signups.
